Fue Hair Transplantation (Follicular Unit Extraction)

FUE hair transplantation is one of the most common and effective methods of obtaining hair follicle transplants. First introduced in 2004, FUE hair transplantation is now among the most preferred hair transplantation methods.

In the FUE method, hair roots are individually extracted from the donor area and transplanted to areas with sparse hair. Grafts are collected using micromotor tips, typically 0.7–1 mm in diameter, causing minimal damage to the surrounding tissue. The extracted hair roots are placed in the sparse area, taking into account their natural direction and angle of growth.

With the FUE hair transplant method, an average of 2,500–3,500 grafts can be transplanted in a single session, depending on the person's hair structure and baldness. FUE hair transplantation leaves no scars and has a very fast recovery process, as it does not require surgical incisions or stitches.

How is FUE Hair Transplantation Performed?

In the first stage of the FUE hair transplantation procedure, grafts are taken without damaging the tissue using an optivizor glasses. In the application, one out of every seven hairs is taken, so the amount of hair taken from the back of the head is not apparent later on. This ensures that the person does not have a sparse appearance at the back of the head. The transplantation procedure is extremely simple and does not require surgery. Furthermore, the patient experiences only minimal pain after the procedure. However, the recovery period is quite fast. In addition, only the area where the hair follicles are transplanted will have small incisions. However, these heal very quickly without leaving any scars.

What Should Be Considered After FUE Hair Transplantation?

  • After the procedure, slight swelling and redness may be seen in the transplanted area.
  • These symptoms usually disappear on their own within a few days.
  • Small scabs the size of a pinhead may form in the transplanted area.
  • The scabs are not noticeable and do not negatively affect work or social life.
  • The patient can comfortably return to their daily and social life after the procedure.
  • Avoid the sea, pools, and solariums for 2 weeks.
  • Direct exposure to intense sunlight should be avoided.
  • Avoid strenuous sports and intense physical activity for 1–2 weeks.

Things to Consider After FUE Hair Transplantation

Post-operative care after FUE hair transplantation is crucial for ensuring permanent and successful results. After the FUE hair transplantation procedure, slight swelling and redness in the transplanted area is normal. These symptoms usually disappear on their own within a few days and do not cause any permanent problems.

After FUE hair transplant, small scabs the size of a needle tip may form in the transplant area. These scabs are very mild and most of the time do not negatively affect the patient's work or social life. Patients can usually return to their daily lives comfortably the day after the procedure.

However, it is recommended to avoid environments such as the sea, swimming pools, and solariums for the first 2 weeks after FUE hair transplantation. At the same time, the transplanted area should not be exposed to intense sunlight. Protective measures should be taken during this period as the sun can slow down the healing process.

Furthermore, the patient should avoid strenuous sports and intense physical activities for the first 1–2 weeks after FUE hair transplantation. Following the doctor's care and protection instructions ensures more successful and lasting results from FUE hair transplantation.
